Wallingford, Conn., March 24, 2014 – Mutualink, Inc. today announced that it received certification from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for its secure interoperable communications and real time multimedia solution.  With this certification, Mutualink can be deployed globally on NATO’s Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation Systems (BICES) Network, enabling anywhere, anytime secure interoperable communications in support of NATO Special Operation Forces and its partners.

Mutualink’s interoperable communications and media sharing platform is the only interoperable communications platform that ensures true national level security in multi-partner and multiagency interoperable communications environments.  Unlike other communications interoperability platforms which utilize traditional enterprise centralized server architecture, Mutualink operates without any centralized server or other switch intelligence which is vulnerable to exploitation.  With Mutualink, coalition partners and other governmental agencies can seamlessly interoperate on demand with their partners through dynamically secure intelligent ad hoc connections.  Each nation’s agencies are in full physical and logical control of their national communications resources, ensuring critical security at both national and agency levels.

According to Joe Mazzarella, Senior Vice President of Mutualink, “This is an important approval because it enables NATO SOF partner nations to be able to securely communicate and interoperate across their respective sovereign communications and information sharing systems over a core NATO network.   As recent events have unfolded, we are reminded that a strong and agile NATO force is essential to ensuring European security.  In this regard, enabling anywhere, anytime, system to any system interoperability, within a secure sovereign context, is fundamentally important.  Similarly, I think it is well recognized that each NATO member is rightfully interested in protecting its national communications and information resources from surreptitious external exploitation or disruption.”

Mutualink cautions that interoperable solutions utilizing centralized server based approaches are inherently insecure and subject to exploitation.  Further, many of these systems utilize business rules to manage and control access and establish communications. This approach is fundamentally non-agile and also subject to exploitation.   “Our patented interoperability solution is designed to deliver, and is uniquely capable of ensuring, sovereign national security in multi-partner environments precisely because there is no middle.  There is nothing to exploit.

Communication collaboration sessions between partners are temporal events based on ad hoc secure connections that dissipate once the session is done. This is entirely different from conventional unified communications system solutions upon which virtually every other interoperable communications solution has been built,” said Mazzarella.  “Not only does our interoperable solution have substantially more capability beyond bridging radios, but it includes real time media and information sharing. Most importantly, it is secure at a national and agency level unlike anything else out there.”
